What is 'works on paper'?

Art made on good quality paper. That can be fine art prints, paintings or drawings. All my prints and paintings are on acid-free fine art paper so my work is of the best quality and will last.

Are your prints digital?

No - my prints are made 100 percent by hand and by me. They're cut from wood, inked, and then printed onto quality paper. I often add paint, stencilling, or drawing too but I do every single stage myself. I use a notebook to draw and plan my ideas too. The only thing digital about my work is this website.

When you run out of one edition of prints do you run off another lot?

Heck no! If you ever meet someone like that back away quickly! My prints are limited editions. You'll see a number on them e.g. 1/9 or 3/9. The first number is what number print in the edition that print is. The second number is how many there are in the total edition. I once contacted a well-known artist about their work to ask how many works were in their edition. They said they hadn't decided yet and were just printing them off as people wanted them. I didn't buy their work and neither should you in this situation. Those people are making money, not something special and limited.

Are the prints all the same?

An edition of prints is technically all the same image. However, because my prints are each handmade they all differ ever so slightly.

How well-known is your work?

I've sold work overseas as well as in New Zealand and have a number of dealer galleries throughout New Zealand. Buyers of my prints range from well-known New Zealanders to couples who have put a print on a long lay-by as a wedding present to themselves.

Regardless of who you are, I think you should always buy art because you love it.

What are your art credentials?

I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1999; my major was Printmaking.

Where can I learn more about works on paper?

Solander Gallery in Wellington, New Zealand is one of my galleries and experts in works on paper. They have a beautiful range in a number of styles and are a good place to begin buying works on paper.
