Yesterday I came home to find a fat little letter in our mailbox, which always signals that any day is about to improve. Inside was a lovely card and this ... It's a bunch of dried bay leaves from Jo, a lovely Emma Makes customer who occasionally sends me mail. On Friday night we have tomato soup on the menu so I'll definitely be using these to make it taste even better. Adding vintage to my Emma Makes lines

I've always used vintage fabric in my Emma Makes designs because it offers better designs, is rarer than everyday new-from-the-bolt-fabric and is often cheaper too. I love hunting op-shops for great pieces and wanted to share a bit more of my love for vintage textiles when I developed my new website. Therefore, occasionally I'm going to list vintage textiles - sometimes it might be some great homewares, other times a really nice piece of fabric. A Christmas giving project

I like to give things and so when I recently saw that Dee was running a programme to give handmade dolls to kids in need I asked to join in. Read about that here. Yesterday I spent a lovely afternoon doing some hand-sewing, getting my kittens ready for their new homes - they're all going to children with medical issues that mean several trips to hospital and time away from home and family. Where ideas come from

Lots of people ask me where I get my ideas from. Mostly it's from looking, noticing, remembering, writing things down as they strike ... then mixing that all up and pulling something together. However, for my new range of Art Deco-inspired bags my idea path was much more linear. A while ago I saw this pair of child's swimming togs on Pinterest...
